Lizzy Stein, Registered Yoga Teacher
I offer support to fellow caregivers, knowing the demands, the exhaustion, the toll that caregiving involves. While I don’t pretend to have it all figured out, I share the practices that have helped me along this journey and am here to guide you through manageable action steps to enhance your self-care toolkit.
Yoga Alliance
Studies completed in 2014
I’m a mom, wife, caregiver, advocate, and yoga teacher. I have been practicing yoga for over 20 years and have been teaching yoga since 2014. I love the sense of grounded connection I gain from my personal yoga practice and I’m here to help others find their own ways to feel uplifted through yoga and Ayurveda. These ancient practices have a brilliance all their own and as I continue to study, I discover more and more ways to take excellent care of myself. I want to share these tips and tricks with you.
Creativity is my fuel
I love creative endeavors and knitting is one of my most favorite crafts. I’m really good at it. Like, really good. I sewed my own wedding dress and knitted the shawl to go with it, finishing it up on the airplane from New York to Arizona for the wedding! I love creating one-of-a-kind items, although this pumpkin hat became a pattern I knitted many, many times over the years. Here’s my eldest kiddo when he rocked the look as a toddler.
Lifelong learner
I majored in Sociology in college and minored in Religious Studies. I had no idea at the time how incredibly useful these studies would be later in life! I think like a sociologist and drive my family crazy, constantly seeking to understand more, to “get” someone else’s world. Gleaning insights into another person’s worldview…how juicy!
United States Peace Corps Volunteer
I served in the Peace Corps on the island of Yap, in the Federated States of Micronesia, waaaaaaaaaay out in the Pacific. Yap, FSM. Google it. It’s one of the most amazing places in the whole flipping world. I loved living in Yap, teaching English as a Second Language, and getting to be immersed in the incredibly rich culture. Here’s my husband and I way back when, swearing in as Peace Corps volunteers…I had absolutely no inkling of ever getting married then!
Early Childhood Educator
I taught preschool at the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center. I loved guiding tiny tots throughout the museum complex in Washington, DC. My commute to work was a 30 minute walk from my apartment, around the Capitol building, to the Smithsonian Museum of National History. Lucky me!
My life partner
My husband and I were married at the Grand Canyon. We have gone back to visit the exact spot every 5 years.
Lifelong learner
I’m absolutely fascinated by neuroscience and love learning more about how we come to know what we know. Life-long learning is a huge part of my being and I love challenging myself to apply new knowledge to my life in how I parent, practice yoga, communicate with loved ones, structure my days, tackle challenges, the list goes on and on.
Passionate about Ayurveda
I love Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga. Once introduced to this ancient system of living with thrive and for longevity, Ayurveda’s hold on me has not wavered. I rely on Ayurvedic practices to keep me feeling my best. And when I feel my worst, I know that doubling down on abhyanga (self massage with oils) and kitchari (rice and lentils dish) will bring some balance to things. But these are just my personal preferences, there are so so so many ancient, accessible, easy things you can learn from me to implement your own self-care awesomeness!
Nature lover
Being in nature is one of my most favorite things. Mountains, beaches, forests, deserts, admiring resilient weeds, arranging rocks, gardening in my backyard, I love it all.
Wizarding World fans for life
We are a household of huge Harry Potter fans. All five of us (four humans and one dog) love reading and re-reading all the wizarding world adventures. It rocks our socks off…and so we get our feet cozy under a blanket and keep reading.
More hiking? Yes, please!
One more hiking picture in case you haven’t noticed that I love the beautiful resilience of the desert. I feel most connected to my sense of place when the sound of my shoes crunching over trails of dusty dirt and rocks is accompanied by only the breeze and birds.
